Hair Articles

Grow Long and Healthy Hair with me.

Is your hair all that it can be? Have you realized your personal hair best? Are you close? Have you ever given thought to any of these questions?

I created this page to share my hair experiences with others. It is my hope that you will be able to learn from my mistakes, take heed to my advice, and have success through my triumphs. Over the past 5 years I have been on a journey to re-educate myself about my hair and in the process achieve long, healthy hair. In my opinion, healthy hair is hair that thrives through good treatment whether it be relaxed, natural, texturized or texlaxed. Hopefully through the many articles, videos and resources provided you can learn something and be inspired to begin your own healthy hair journey.

Personally, I don’t have the longest, fullest, thickest, or silkiest hair. I may never be in a Pantene commercial but what is important is that I am achieving mypersonal hair best. We all can’t have shampoo commercial calibre hair. But as they say, you just have to work with what you’ve got. But no one said that what you currently have is all that you’ll ever have or even the best that you can have.

Growing your hair is a subjective experience and totally dependent upon your individual hair. You just have to find the combination of products and methods that work for you.

No matter how long my hair gets however, my hair journey will never end. I like to think of it as a continuous process that evolves as I learn.

Great hair, great help! Thanks for the info and techniques. Can you tell us where you get your long satin scarves? I just got some satin from the fabric store and am making my first braidout attempt using your method. It’s not 3″ thick though…

Hey Belisa, Thank you first of all :)
I buy my satin scarves at Sally Beauty, Walmart, Walgreens or CVS, they cost like $2 -$3. This is the one I buy- http://www.sallybeauty.com/Wrapping-Scarf/SBS-480170,default,pd.html
Products I use for my braidout- http://zanandrob.com/2010/01/products-i-use-for-my-braidouts/

I am thinking of buying some satin too from the fabric store. When I find the time though. I think as long as the satin you have is a good quality material like the satin scarves, it should work fine. Plus, you will know just how well your fabric works once you try it. It should not dry your hair out or make it frizzy.
The size of the strips depends on how big you want your braidout curls. The smaller the width of the strip, the tighter the curls.

      Hope that helps
      Zan
