Does ShamWow Work on Hair?
Can ShamWow Get Your Hair Dry Really Fast?
Rating:

Have you ever seen the Shamwow commercial and wondered, “hmm…if it holds twice its weight in liquid, it should be able to get my hair dry in no time!”. Well, if you did, you are not alone. I bought a pack of Shamwow in CVS and immediately put this theory to the test.
The Test
Use Shamwow to dry my soaking wet hair
How does one Shamwow towel compare to a regular bath towel?
As the infomercial suggests, it does have very good water retention quality. It certainly out performs the standard terry cloth towel in that respect. And It doesn’t drip like a normal towel would.
But will the Shamwow get your hair completely dry in 5 minutes?
Ah…No. But it will get a good deal of the water out without having to constantly wring the towel out and it does it faster than a regular towel. Again, it doesn’t drip even though the towel gets visibly wet and heavy. Even though you don’t need to, you should probably wring the towel out if it becomes too wet. Also, a big plus is, It doesn’t leave behind any lint or fuzz in my hair.
The Downsides
- The large towel is not nearly large enough to cover your entire head. Perhaps you could make one large towel by sewing 2 Shamwows together. For me it’s not worth the trouble.
- The large Shamwow towels are thick and stiff. It feels a lot like felt and less like fabric. However, once you wash it, it does become softer.
- Since it dries hair pretty quickly, if your hair is prone to getting frizzy, you might not want to use ShamWow in your hair or use it veery carefully.
Would I recommend that you buy a pack of Shamwow for the sole purpose of drying you hair?
For $19.99, NO. But if you already bought it or are planning on buying it for other purposes then you lose nothing by trying it out on your hair.
Oh, and in case you were wondering, it works okay for its intended purposes also.
So, tell me, am I the only one crazy enough to try Shamwow on my hair?
Update: 3.8.2010
Since I wrote this review I’ve been using my Shamwows to dry my hair consistently. As I mentioned above, once you wash them, they are very very soft. I don’t even use towels to dry my hair anymore, only Shamwows. Since I am more of a blot dryer and not someone who covers their entire head with the towel and leave it on, the size of the Shamwow is not an issue. In fact, the size of the Shamwow is an asset. I like how small it is yet still it does the job of a large towel.
Good product, if you have it, try it in your hair. For me, I no longer towel dry, I Shamwow dry. I am a Shamwow for hair fan.
