Hope for Damaged Hair - ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment
What is ApHogee Two-Step Protein Treatment? ApHogee is a salon grade protein treatment for damaged hair that is available for home use.
I always recommend this product to people because it really works! Since I started using ApHogee a couple years ago, I have little to no breakage at all and I've been able to retain more length because of that. I do a treatment every 6 weeks which typically falls midway between my relaxer touch-ups.
Why is it called a Two-Step Protein Treatment?
It is called Two-Step because it is considered a two step process where the protein treatment is the first step and the second step is the ApHogee Balancing Moisturizer.
How does it work? The product contains magnesium and modified proteins which fuse into the hair and hardens when heat is applied. This process allows it to rebuild the hair structure and strengthens the strands.
Why should you use it? ApHogee 2 step protein treatment repairs damaged hair and drastically reduces breakage.
Who should do a Protein Treatment? People with damaged or chemically processed hair. Or hair that is:
From Aphogee.com
- Is too weak or fine to take a perm or relaxer. (use the week PRIOR to service)
- Is over-bleached.
- Will not hold color. (use PRIOR to color application)
- Breaks when combed or brushed.
- Is mushy when wet and brittle after drying.
When should you use ApHogee Two-Step protein treatment?
You can apply it at least 24-36 hours before a chemical process - that is a Relaxer or a Color Treatment.
How soon after using Aphogee can you relax your hair?
Personally, I would recommend waiting at least 1 week before relaxing or 1 week after relaxing. WHY? The aphogee can irritate your scalp and make it more vulnerable to burns during your relaxer process.
How often should you do a Protein treatment? Use once every 4 to 6 weeks.
How long does the strengthening last? ApHogee strengthens your hair for up to six weeks.
Instructions for Use
Package Directions:
Gently cleanse hair with ApHOGEE Shampoo. Rinse thoroughly and towel blot. Apply enough ApHOGEE Treatment to thoroughly saturate hair and comb blend for even distribution. Leave hair uncovered. Do not use a plastic cap, and seat client under medium heat dryer. (Alternatively, a hand dryer may be used, but hair should not be agitated while drying.) Note: When ApHOGEE Treatment is dried into the hair, the hair becomes extremely hard. Do not comb or brush hair while ApHOGEE Treatment is dried and in the hair. Re-wet and gently rinse thoroughly with warm water. Apply ApHOGEE Moisturizer to hair & scalp. Leave for 2 minutes, then rinse thoroughly. Proceed to next service or style as usual.

Possible Cons: It isn't cheap, the smell is less than pleasant, it is sticky, it drips all over the place, that includes your body. Wear something that you don't mind getting hard sticky protein all over. In my opinion, the smell is not that bad, and the price is well worth it. You get what you pay for.

A heavy protein treatment one week before relaxing, and a mild protein treatment right before neutralizing your relaxer….Is what I have researched…..I will be trying this my next relaxer…..You can do your research for the technical reasons behind this….
I have read this also but I wouldn’t recommend the pre-neutralizing protein treatment to newbies. I have done it once, I didn’t notice any major difference but I might give a try again.
HI Zan,
Can the Protein treatment be used right after relaxing my hair?
Hey JK,
I would not use the hard protein treatment right after a relaxer application. I would instead use the light protein treatment like the ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor right after the relaxer. You can do the hard protein a week before or a week after the relaxer. There are several reasons but one good one is you it will burn like hell. If ur scalp is tender, sore or burned after relaxing, the hard protein will sting!
Is it better to use it before or after a relaxer? I have been doing it 1 week before my relaxer on and off for about 4 years. My stylist recently moved and I was looking for a new one. The girl I just interviewed said I should be doing it after. She gave me a logical reason why but I am trying to do more research.
I can’t be the ultimate judge of when to do it, it depends on your hair. I would feel better making that call if I had a background in chemistry, but I don’t. Personally if faced with the choice, I would do the hard protein before the relaxer and the reconstructor right after. As it is now, I use the hard protein midway between my texlax touchups.
