6 Things that Could be Damaging Your Hair

Things that could be waging a silent war on your strands

  1. Ragged or sharp finger nails.
    • A ragged nail can cause so much damage and pull a lot of your hair before you even know it.
    • File your nails.
  2.

  3. Rings/Bracelets
    • If you’ve ever ran your fingers through your hair and come out with hair stuck in your ring or your bracelet, well you know what to do.
    • Stop wearing the offending piece of jewelry when working with your hair.
  4.

  5. Clothing that seem to snag and pull your hair.
    • Wool, cotton or knitted hats, scarves, tops, jackets, or sweaters. If you’ve noticed pieces of hair lodged between the fibers of your clothing, then your clothes have taken a liking to your hair and will be devouring it every chance it gets.
    • Try wearing your hair up when you wear materials like this. Line the inside of your knit caps with satin.
  6.

  7. Combs and hair clips with sharp teeth or edges.Â

    • The teeth of your comb should be smooth and rounded. Metal hair clips such as barrettes can pull your hair and break it if your hair gets caught in the locking mechanism or in the hinge.  You can’t afford for the things you use everyday to be silently waging a war against your hair.
    • Buy smooth edged clips and combs.
  8.

  9. Handbag straps
    • Unless your hair is at least shoulder length you may not have experienced this. Handbag straps can prove absolutely lethal when it comes to hair. The heavier your handbag, the more likely it is to painfully pull and break your hair if you place the straps on your shoulder before moving your hair out of the way.
    • The only thing to do is to always remember to move your hair to the side before pulling those straps on your shoulders.
  10.

  11. The hinge of a curling iron
    • You know that part of the curling iron between the barrel and the curl release (clamp). Yes that part. It is like the twilight zone for hair. Hair gets caught in the hinge area and never sees the light of day again. One minute you are curling and the next minute you are trying to free your hair from the curling iron’s hinge and spring trap. You may manage to get your hair out, but the damage is already done.
    • Avoid the hinge of the curling iron.
  12.

You may only lose a small amount of hair from the above but trust me, over time it adds up.

Great tips! Right now I’m looking for plastic hair accessories with rounded ends to keep my hair up. I never really thought of how metal clips etc can do damage!

      Thanks,
I hope you find just the right hair accessory for you. I am very picky about the kinds of clips I buy. Those little suckers can do alot of damage if you’re not careful. :)
